The Pursuit - Jamie Cullum's new album
Throughout August I’ll be creating the look for Jamie Cullum’s new album to be released in November ... and yes, the rumours are true ... we are blowing up a piano!
‘Working closely with Jamie i wanted to develop a visual representation of his energy and relationship with the piano.
The exploding piano represents not destruction but rather creation - the unstoppable and unique power that Jamie exudes when playing live.
It is this force that i wanted to capture when thinking about an overall look for The Pursuit.
The narrative of the video is built upon the way Jamie relates to the piano. He is a performer like no other, treating the piano almost as an extension of himself, pushing the instrument to give him more and more.
Whilst we are blowing up the piano for just one video, the idea was conceived to provide design assets across all mediums relating to Jamie ... the album artwork, the website, the stage design, the live visuals, merchandise.
In addition to this we cut an alphabet from black acrylic so that each letter references the look of a piano key.
This ‘360 degrees’ idea means that The Pursuit is more than just an album title, it is an experience all of Jamie’s fans can take part in’. -
